Students’ protest against fellows’ detention

By Adnan Lodhi

LAHORE: Students from across the city and members of civil society on Monday protested at the Cantonment Court against the “imposition of marital law” and the suspension of bails of the arrested students. Ten people including some students were detained on Thursday from outside the deposed Judge Shahid Siddiqui’s residence in GOR-I. Two FAST students, Hassan and Amanullah were also among arrested. Their fellow students were expecting that Hassan and Amanullah would be bailed out, but the court ordered them to appear on Tuesday (today) in the Anti-Terrorist Court, Dharampura. Human Rights Commission of Pakistan chairperson Asma Jahangir, Lahore Bar Association president Syed Muhammad Shah, Advocate Khurram Latif Khosa were also present on the occasion. The participants shouted slogans Go Musharraf Go and Zulm Kay Yea Zabtay Hum Nahi Mantay. The Students Action Committee continued the strike on the third day (Monday) at Lahore Press Club. A large number of students were present at the camp. Several lawyers and human rights activists visited the hunger strike camp and expressed their solidarity with the protesting students.
